HOW THEY MET. Gemma and James met at work a good few years ago, but they were both in other relationships. Those relationships at the time didn’t work out and James and her found their way to each other through lifts, nights out, to, eventually, date nights. James then asked Gemma if she wanted to go to a wedding with him in America. She then figured it would be a good idea to make their relationship official!
PROPOSAL. James proposed at their favorite beach, Whitstable, in Kent while they were watching the sunset after eating their donuts! The couple spent a fair amount of time there and it still is their favorite place to drink beers and eat donuts on the beach.
WEDDING. The couple got engaged in September 2020 and got married In October 2021. They started planning straight away after the proposal.
They got married at The Beacon https://www.illbemother.co.uk/thebeacon - a beautiful country house set within 17 acres over looking Happy Valley. The Beacon is a picture postcard of whimsical, rustic romance. A beautifully refurbished country house with stunning views and endless gardens, The Beacon is full of character and charm for a relaxed and intimate celebration. A little bit like home, with cozy corners, snugs and stylish interiors, The Beacon is the ultimate party house, wonderful for an exclusive-use wedding of feasting, celebrations and fun.
The house has a long history of hosting glamorous parties and providing care and shelter for those in need.
"It was the perfect autumnal wedding and from the day we saw it we knew we wanted to get married there. The vibes were immaculate and we felt so at home. We went for an autumnal / rustic wedding. The autumn is my favorite season and we are really into country music, so a merge or the two displayed our personalities and styles."
Gemma did most of the planning herself with the help of Family and their brilliant venue coordinator Robyn. The budget was set at £30k and they stayed around that.
Walking down the aisle and seeing James at the end was the best part of the wedding for Gemma. James’ highlight of the wedding was also being at the end of the aisle as the bride walked down ! (Too sweet!)
WEDDING DRESS. The style of Gemma's wedding dress was a slim fit / fit and flare with a lot of lace:
"It was something I wouldn’t usually wear but decided going out of my comfort zone to get married was a good idea. And it paid off, I felt amazing. The designer was Morilee https://uk.morilee.com/ and I chose it because it made me feel beautiful. It was a difficult decision as I was torn between two dresses, but ultimately went with this one as it was so glam and was nothing I’d seen before"
Any advice for future brides and grooms?
"Don’t stress, it surprisingly comes together on the day! (Best day of our lives).
I can’t do this without mentioning TKP. David was amazing and blended in with the wedding so well to create the candid shots we wanted and LOVE".
