Elegant Spring Wedding at Van Dyk by Wildes, Charlotte & Chris, March 2022

ABOUT US. Charlotte and Chris met in the modern world of Tinder.

"Chris didn’t even swipe right for me, his friends had stolen his phone! But we had our first date 5 years ago and the rest is history! "

The lovely couple went away to Centerparcs in October 2020 for a break with their friends after being in lockdown over the summer. Chris proposed when they arrived - on the beach in front of the pancake house. Charlotte says he was too nervous to wait until any later in the holiday!

"...though when he got down on one knee rather than pop the question, the nerves got the better of him and he announced that I had something stuck in my teeth and then went on to ask me to marry him!"

THE WEDDING. The wedding planning started straight away when the newly engaged couple got back from Centerparcs. It took about 16 months to plan. There were no Covid reschedules and the couple stayed with their original date.

Wedding took place at Van Dyk by Wildes in Clowne https://www.vandykbywildes.co.uk.

"It was the first venue we went to view in person and we just fell in love with it! It had a walled garden that the ceremony could take place in that was just beautiful and we were desperate to use. We had the option of booking the wedding in March or November. We were certain the weather wouldn’t be good enough in November, so booked March and crossed our fingers for over a year! We were so lucky that it was warm and sunny on our wedding day and we were able to go ahead with the ceremony in the garden. It was absolutely perfect!"

WEDDING DRESS. Charlotte got her dress from New York Bride, Eckington. It is an off the peg bridal shop and was the second dress Charlotte has bought. She fell in love with the train on the dress and knew it was the one.

"I was lucky enough to be able to return the first dress I had bought. My dress didn’t quite have the neckline I had visualised though, so I took it to a seamstress and she was able to add additional appliqué to make it more my style and then I also embroidered on some extra beading. I liked that we had made a dress that was almost bespoke and nobody else would wear! I also got a bit creative with my veil. I found the style I had been looking for and the perfect colour for my dress, but it was full length and hid the design of my train. So I took some scissors to it and cut it down to fingertip length. Nobody knew I hadn’t bought it like that."

When it came to bridesmaids dresses, Charlotte didn’t want to go with a colour that seemed popular at the time. She searched and searched, and came across the mauve colour scheme and knew it would be perfect for what she had in mind.

"I could envisage it coming through the colour scheme of the rest of the wedding and knew it would work on the bridesmaids with having 2 blonde and 2 brunette. I chose the infinity dress that was multi-way so the bridesmaids could wear it how they felt comfortable and it was really easy to take up. So I could adjust the lengths of the dresses for everyone."

SHOES. Quiz. Just because they had lots of sparkle and went well with her dress! The bride ordered some shoe bows from Etsy https://www.etsy.com/uk in silver with pale blue writing with the wedding date and her married name. These were her 'something blue' to wear on the day.

HAIR & MUA. Make up artist was Jessica Ley and hair stylist was Hair by Kerry. Charlotte found them both on Instagram and after a few messages knew they would be perfect. They were so lovely and friendly and the images they posted of their work on their social media looked stunning. It was easy having them both there on the wedding morning. They listened to exactly what Charlotte and her bridesmaids were wanting and made them all feel so beautiful!

PERFUME. Chris wore his favourite aftershave by Creed that Charlotte had bought him for his birthday. The bride wore Daisy Love by Marc Jacobs which Chris has bought her for her birthday and reminds her of him every time she smells it.

THE GROOM. Chris always knew he wanted a Marc Darcy suit for his wedding. He picked the Dion range and had the matching tie and pocket square to go with it. He had some lovely cufflinks made with pictures of his late grandparents on, so they were there at his side on the day.

BEST OF THE DAY. Highlight of the day was when their son, who was the page boy, ran down the aisle to fist pump Chris and then, when he saw Charlotte walking down the aisle, ran back to give her a hug. It melted their hearts!

"Don’t get too stressed about it all being perfect. As long as you are both happy and married, the little mishaps will not be noticed by the guests or will all be forgotten about."
